XC | Kodiaks women ranked first in country after strong meet
Strong appearances by both men's and women's cross country teams has led to a strong showing in the first CCAA national rankings of the season.
Oct. 1, 2019 - The first CCAA national rankings of the season have been released and both Kodiaks men's and women's cross country programs are featured prominently.
The Kodiaks women's team landed at number one in the country after taking another ACAC Grand Prix win last weekend, while the Kodiaks men debut at number five.
Last weekend saw the teams compete in the ACAC Grand Prix #4, hosted by SAIT in Calgary. Running the same course that will be used at the ACAC championships later in October, the Kodiaks thrived despite battling cold, slushy conditions.
Defending CCAA national champion Sophia Nowicki (third year, Nursing, Bragg Creek) once again crossed the finish line in first place, running the 6km distance in 24:23. She was supported by teammate Rosie Bouchard (first year, Renewable Resource Management, Okotoks) who finished third. The Kodiaks women’s team placed first for their second consecutive ACAC race, eight points ahead of second place Red Deer College.
On the men's side, Connor Jackson (second year, Business Administration, Surrey, B.C.) placed on the podium for the first time this season, as he finished in second place. The Kodiaks team also placed second, just one point back of Red Deer College and four points ahead of SAIT.
Full results from the race can be found on the ACAC website.
The Kodiaks will enjoy a recovery weekend before traveling to Edmonton for a race hosted by University of Alberta – Augustana on Oct. 12.
